Education and Early Childhood Learning

The MET number is a unique identifier that the province creates for each student who enrols in a Manitoba public school. MET numbers help the province maintain and trace individual student records for funding and statistical purposes. MET numbers are required for a variety of school administration activities including school enrollment, issuing of provincial report cards, registration for provincial exams, and provincial funding applications.

MET number requests from school divisions or schools

MET numbers are usually assigned at set times in the fall and winter when schools send student registration files to the department. Education Administration Services issues MET numbers to schools and school divisions throughout the year when the MET number was not generated through the standard process, such as when a student is enrolled after the September 30th enrollment deadline.

To request a MET number for one or more students in grade 1 or higher, please print and complete a MET number request form ( 230 KB). You can print and submit multiple forms if needed.

Completed MET number request forms should be faxed to Education Administration Services to the attention of Student Records (Fax: 204-948-2154). Once the requested MET number(s) are generated, we will send the number(s) back to you by fax.

Education Administration Services does not typically provide MET numbers for the registration of kindergarten students. If you require a MET number for a kindergarten student for a special circumstance, please indicate the reason for your MET number request on your MET number request form.

When filling out the request form, please keep the following information in mind:
